Hot Temperatures and UV Radiation May Damage Your Siding

Hot Sun Siding Damage Contractors Repair

Summer surely brings nice weather that invites us to spend more time outside, but it also brings high heat that can damage building components, including the siding. Here are some ways that hot temperatures and strong UV radiation can cause harm in your siding:

  • Fading – strong UV rays can change the color of the siding panels. How sensitive your siding is to fading depends on the material that the panels are made from and on the quality of the pain used. While wood, cement and metal panels can be repainted whenever necessary, the color of some synthetic options cannot be changed, so the panels need to be replaced by a Lansing siding contractor when they lose their color;
  • Drying – this problem affects mostly wooden siding panels. When exposed to high heat for two long, wooden panels can dry and crack, especially if they are not properly treated with protective coatings;
  • Melting – this issue has been noticed on synthetic materials, such as vinyl. Melting usually happens when the heat coming from the sun reaches extreme levels;
  • Cracking – high heat causes materials to expand, while the lower temperatures typical for the nights in summer will cause the materials to shrink. This constant movement might cause smaller or larger cracks to appear in siding panels.
