Fire-Retardant Roofing Products

The roofs over our heads protect us from the elements, therefore they must be constructed using materials that are not only weather-resistant, but also resistant to fire, even if the area where you live is not fire-prone. If you want to make sure that your roof can provide sufficient protection in case of a fire, here are the roofing materials that have the best fire-resistance ratings:

  • Clay and concrete – these breathable materials are not only resistant to fire, but they are also installed using special techniques that can prevent the spreading of fire,
  • Metal – roofs made from aluminum, galvanized steel have very high melting points, which delays damage in the event of a fire and helps the work of fire fighters as well,
  • Slate – this non-combustible material is resistant to heat as well as to open flames, what’s more, the material does not scorch or scratch either, so it is resistant to various type of impact, not only to fire.

To make your roof completely fire-resistant, you need to pay attention not only to the materials used for covering the roof, but also to the materials used for gearing vents, flashings, soffits and gutters against fire – fortunately, most accessories used in these areas of the roof are made from metal or from other fire-retardant materials, too.  That’s why it is most of the time best to have an experienced Lansing roofing contractor to do the installation for you.
